rating: 4 QuoteEnjoyed Vincent and Kathryn in this first episode.Quote
I liked the first episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent. These two actors have taken their roles and made it their own. I enjoyed watching Vincent act in his first interrogation. You can tell he brings much thought to being Detective Goren, making the character strong, intelligent, and very odd in the same way. The character he protrays is original, and that is the one thing I don't tire of when watching this show. Kathryn plays a tough character. Reminds me of the character Lenny Briscow, and that no nonsense attitude makes her strong and witty at the same time. The first episode isn't as strong as the others, but it sets the format for what all the other episdoes will be like.

Yes, it is true you can get this episode with the "First Year," but I didn't mind getting this, as well. I consider myself a true fan of the series, and having this DVD along with the first season doesn't bother me one bit. I am just glad that I can watch it whenever I want, and I don't have to wait for it to come on television. January 21, 2007

This is included on the first season DVD. Using the word "premiere" makes it seem like it is something other than the first episode. I should have read the reviews - there is nothing new on this DVD. December 13, 2006

This is the premiere episode of a great show where the audience is introduced to two detectives, who use the deducting method, psychology and intuition more than a gun.

It is intriguing and sometimes funny the way detective Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) plays with the offenders the cat and mouse game.

Through the years, the initial picture of the main characters remains the same and, even though some episodes are a little too slow, it is the best of the shows created from the original Law & Order.

The episode contained here is a very good one. And I can think of nothing bad to say about it. And the documentary is very good as well. But you get the SAME episode and the SAME documentary {no other extra's though} PLUS 22 more episodes with the first season set. If you can not afford the first season set this would be better than nothing. But if you can afford it, avoide this and buy the first season. Had I known the first season DVD's were comming 5 months ago I WOULD HAVE!! October 12, 2003

rating: 2 QuoteReal fans should boycott these piecemeal releasesQuote
This is typical of a bad DVD release. It looks like a crude attempt to extract as much revenue as possible from large base of loyal fans. Some reviewers who wax lyrical over the 'special' interview features and "insight into the show" in this single episode DVD either work for the publisher or miss the point that any of these items could have been included in a 'full season' release. This piecemeal approach is frustrating for real fans of the series who, to date, have seen only one complete season released. I for one will protest with my wallet. It stays shut until the complete seasons are released. September 13, 2003
