Little House on the Prairie: Laura Ingalls Wilder (1974)

One of the best ever episodes

I totally agree with others that this is an absolute must for any Little House fans. Especially if you love Dean Butler as I do. One of the best.

I also agree that it would be nice to have "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not" in this series. Also, how about "Back To School" Parts I and II that introduce Almonzo to the series. And, of course, "Sweet Sixteen", the episode when Almonzo finally notices Laura as a grown up woman and falls in love with her!! January 24, 2008

Not quite as sweet

I am a fan of the Little House series and I don't expect the show to follow completely the book series. I do though wish the wedding story of Laura and Almanzo represented more closely what really did happen. They were planning on marrying and Laura did use teaching money to prepare things she would need. Almanzo had gone back home to his family and came home before planned and asked Laura to marry him more quickly because his sister and mom were coming out to plan a bigger wedding than he could afford. So, he quickly put up a house and she worked hard on finishing her dress. But it was not her wedding dress. She was working on another dress she would need and decided she would have to get married in it, a black dress. When the house was done, Almanzo picked Laura up and took her to the preacher's house. Her family did not come because they didn't feel it was fair for them to be there and not his family. They were married and went back to her families house for a feast. Finally, Almanzo took Laura to their home where she was surprised at his tenderness to build her really a fancy pantry, for back then, and in the pantry a way to go into a cellar. He had also placed out some things her mom suggested to make if feel more like home to her.

Never in the books is there a break up between them over a quarrel about her teaching. I personally didn't feel this episode really represented just how sweet their union was. I was disappointed to see their marriage in the show wouldn't have taken place without the sister's sacrifice. I think what really did happen would have made for not only an exciting show to watch, but also shown the love they had for each other.

However, if you are a fan of the show like me, it won't keep you from having the episodes. This one is on the season 7 series, so you may want to purchase that and have all the other episodes in addition to this. September 9, 2005

Good,But Deals More With Eliza Jane Than Laura.

What Really Dissapointed Me Is That This Epesode Deals More With Almonzo's Sister,Eliza Jane,Than It Deals With Laura.I Mean,This Is The Wedding Of Pioneer Girl Laura Ingalls Wilder!Not All About Eliza Jane!It`s Still Pretty Good,Though.But You Might Want To Get The Complete Season That Has It On Dvd So You`ll get More Good,Quality Episode`s! A Little House Wedding

I always cry at weddings..and this one gets me every time!
In a double length feature, see the touching story of how Laura becomes Mrs. Alamanzo Wilder in "Laura Ingalls Wilder". Laura(Melissa Gilbert) and Almanzo(Dean Butler) are having trouble making ends meet, and Almanzo doesn't want to marry until he can provide for his bride to be. Meanwhile Almanzo's sister Eliza Jane(Lucy Lee Flippen)is also having romantic problems of
her own and makes a supreme sacrifice to see her brother and Laura happily married. Meanwhile...on the other side of town... Nellie and Percival just found out they are expecting!..Harriet is to be grandmother!!!

This episode guest stars a young James Cromwell and this one will really tug at your heartstrings!It was written and directed by Michael Landon and as always the music of David Rose is beautiful.

Goodtimes Video makes these classic TV episodes a pleasure to watch on DVD. They look and sound great. This episode is a really special one and runs the entire hour and half and without all the commercials. If you really love the Little House on the Prairie Series, I would suggest buying this one in the four pack that Goodtimes has out. It also includes "The Premier Movie", "The Lord Is My Shepherd"(both of these are also feature length) and "The Collection" guest starring Johnny and June Carter Cash.
I agree with the aother reviewer who said that it would be nice to have the prequel to this one as well(so we can watch the wonderful story of Laura and Almanzo getting engaged).How bout it Goodtimes?
