I AM A COACH FOR THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS IN COLUMBUS OHIO AND THIS MOVIE IS SO MOVING AND SO TRUE OF WHAT SO MANY PEOPLE WITH DISABLITIES GO THROUGH WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS. I COULD WATCH THIS MOVIE OVER AND OVER JUST BECAUSE OF THE TRUTH THAT IT HAS IN IT. GREAT MOVIE
October 19, 2007its great ! the story makes me think about wilma rudolph all the time now, she was very determined
March 16, 2006 I liked this movie because Loretta is a girl where everyone is pushing her down and saying she won't make it. Why would they say that? It might have something to do with her mental retardation.
Loretta was trying her best to be a runner but people wanted to take that away from her. I liked this movie because it's lively and it's based on a true story.
Loretta Claiborne is a real person who really runs and mostly everything about this film is true. Loretta did turn down the President. Loretta was tricked. Her mom did have 6 kids as a single mother.
If you look at the cover or back of it, you might think this is going to be so boring. But it is not. It's better than a lot of the movies they come up with nowadays.

2/22/04 : This 1999 movie aired on Comcast Cable's "Lifetime Channel":the challenges faced by "special persons",even more so when they are less than normal ,ordinary people but also "more normal than those who are "considerably not normal"-- was significantly examplified with very excellent acting :especially by the character of social worker(actress Camryn Manheim) and the character of Loretta Claiborne(actress Kimberly Elise).
