Disappointing DVD!

Disappointing story, disappointing acting, disappointing picture quality, disappointing sound quality, disappointing scenes... I think this DVD is worth $0.99 at the max! The producers are aware of this fact too because they did not bother to include credits at the end of the movie, it ends just with the caption The End! May 31, 2006

Erotica on Joke Island

Boy was this movie BAD! That's capital B, capital A, and capital D............................BAD!!

Admittedly, the lead and only actress, Laura Gemser is a lovely, sensuous, exotic, mixed race creature with a sinewy but luscious body, truly a provocative woman. Enough so for me think for a second or two that this dreck is worthy of a star or two.

For the uninformed, Emanuelle or Emmanuelle movies (there are a dozen or so) are softcore porn also called erotica and they seem to star, if you can call it that, several different women. Emanuelle on Taboo stars the previously mentioned Laura Gemser, who also partakes in about a half dozen other Emmanuelle/Emanuelle films, a strikingly beautiful woman with fine features, really the only redeeming part of this farce. It also has three others, Arthur Kennedy, Paul Guisti and an uncredited young man, in supporting roles and that my friends is the entire cast (not counting about a dozen extras in the beginning and the middle)

The Goods

Let's see, it's hard to figure out what's going on at first but here's the way the beginning appears to me. Daniel (Paul Guisti) and a group of young addicts head for the ocean for a little fun. One of the young ladies overdoses and Paul, who is appalled, takes a motorboat and heads off into the ocean. He is knocked out when he swerves to avoid a collision with a yacht and hits his head. He awakens in the middle of the ocean, out of gas with no idea where he is, so he stars paddling and finds land, an island actually, the so called Taboo Island.

Now I must warn you that what I have written so far sounds better than it is. Trust me this is the most dreadful movie ever made, even worse than "Kiss of the Spider Woman" which I claimed was the worst in a recent review.

Let's continue shall we. Daniel is marooned on a tropical island where he believes he is alone. After a couple days he discovers a young man, and a beautiful woman, brother and sister - Juan (unknown)and Adee (Gemser). They have never been off the island and were raised there by their father, Antonio (Kennedy), a crusty paranoid former escaped prisoner, who doesn't take kindly to Daniel's intrusion.

As you might suspect Adee and Daniel are attracted to each other and the movie degenerates into a carefree tour of the island by the sibblings and Daniel and fishing in the ocean, interspersed with some of the most lackluster love scenes I have ever been forced to watch. These appalling love scenes, which never show any simulated intercourse, are basically scenes of passionless, inept foreplay wherein Daniel sucks on Adee's left nipple for several minutes breaking to kiss Adee for a couple seconds every minute or so. I suspect that if any of us were this clumsy in our lovemaking we wouldn't be married very long. Either that or our wives would take up reading a book during intercourse.

Just in case there is someone obtuse enough to rent or buy this waste of time after reading my review, I won't go into the truly hokey, schlocky finale.

CONCLUSION

Actually, excluding Laura Gemser and she isn't that good in this movie, the best thing about this movie is the background music, which isn't good but is less than awful, though it really sounds like chamber music and doesn't fit the setting in the least. Hey what do you want from a movie that has a budget that is less than the sum that the Indians sold Manhattan to the colonists.

So what do we have here? Terrible acting, really stupid story, silly plot, ultra low budget and excruciatingly boring love scenes. What else? Ahhh yes atrocious color cinematography which was cloudy at times, lacked color at times, so poor that in some scenes actually seemed to be filmed in black and white.

shocking and erotic

YES, there are no explicit sex scenes in this movie but there doesn't need to be when you have a great story. it's all about a guy who escaped from prison decades ago and washed up on an island. he's the "father" of two children he obviously found on the island in the first place. the children, a boy and a girl, grew up with nobody and so as a result they turned to each other to release their sexual urges. the father-type makes no effort to hide his sexual feelings for his daughter; the brother grows jealous of a guy who washes ashore and "steals" his sister from him! the father is just as upset because this "intruder" is interrupting his secluded life with his "children". a scene on the beach shows the brother and sister in an obvious sexual mood but they're interrupted by the intruder who breaks it up before anything can happen. shades of incest are very clear in this film and i give it four stars because the producers and writers could've made a statement with such taboo topics as incest and rape. instead, the taboo is suggested rather than seen. there's a heart pounding chase scene through the jungles and i won't say what happens next. this is a great erotic movie if you can stomach taboo topic like incest. A complete rip- off

Please don't buy this DVD. The picture quality is one of an EP VHS. It says "unrated, uncut" edition...but there are actually no explicit sex scenes, In fact the sex scenes could be rated PG-13!!! There's topless nudity and that's it. This has nothing to do with the very sexy "emmannuelle" movies. Too bad because Laura Gemser was amazingly beautiful and I was looking forward to a sexy movie. Don't waste your money supporting the rip-off artists who made this DVD. December 2, 2002
