About WWE Armageddon 2000

In a constant effort to try to outdo every pay-per-view event that's come before, the WWF put itself into a bit of a catch-22 with the 2000 installment of Armageddon. On the positive side, they concocted one hell of a main event, a chaotic match so enormous, potentially bloody, exciting, and superstar-packed that you can actually admire the company for trying to give its fans something new. For starters, they gathered up the six biggest names in the Federation--the Rock, Triple H, Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Rikishi, and then-champion Kurt Angle--and threw them into one single match. They then topped it off by making it a Hell in a Cell match (a fancy, ominous term for what old-school wrestling fans remember as a steel-cage match), which meant that the action would include a lot of blood and several bodies flying 20 feet through tables, steel, etc. The WWF definitely delivers on their promise, as the six-man Hell in a Cell match is frantic and entertaining from start to finish. However, the downside to putting all of your top wrestlers in the ring at one time means you have about two and a half hours left to fill. Of the seven remaining matches here, only the Last Man Standing match between high-flying Chris Jericho and masked monster Kane even comes close to equaling the excitement of the finale. But that main event just about makes up for all the filler you should fast-forward through to get to it. --Dave McCoy Amazon.com

WWF Armageddon has not been well received for since it aired back in December of 2000 over the last couple of years. While I don't think that this event is worth going out of your way to see, there are some highlights to this event. More importantly, the main event featuring 6 of the WWF's best inside the most brutal structure in sports entertainment..Hell In A Cell.

Elimination Match: Hardy Boyz & Lita vs Radicals. It's funny how this match could have easily been at the previous month's Survivor Series. This was a good opener that was based around the Dean Malenko/Lita feud going on at that time. The eliminations happened back to back with Terri Runnels (Saturn's manager) eventually getting involved & recieving a twist of fate that almost knocked her out of her clothes. It was left between Malenko & Lita in the end where he punished Lita before making her tap out.

WWF European Champion William Regal vs Hardcore Holly. I thought WWF learned their lesson at Survivor Series about putting these two in a match together. The only moments to look out for here was Holly not receiving that loud pop in his own hometown & Raven interfering to cost Holly the match. Other than that, this was the same dull match that we seen the month before.

Val Venis vs Chyna. First of all, I just want to say that Venis was a talented athlete who was very underrated at this time. This was the beginning of Chyna's feud with the RTC but this was nothing more than a filler that had nothing special towards it when it was over.

Last Man Standing Match: Kane vs Chris Jericho. I am in the minority when I said that even though this feud was pointless, their Survivor Series match was solid. This was a huge stepdown from that match & a disappointment considering Jericho's classic Last Man Standing match with Triple H earlier in the year as this was mostly Kane dominating the match with power moves & using a chair while Jericho got a shot here & there till winning the match in a very unconvincing fashion.

Four Corners Match: WWF Tag Team Champions Bull Buchanan & The Goodfather vs Edge & Christian vs Road Dogg & K-Kwik vs Dudley Boyz. This is where the PPV starts to pick up where the opener left off. Each team had enough time to put forth a strong effort & were able to shine within that time. However, the climax of the match was pretty exciting which helps the scoring for this match & set the stage for the Rumble title match involving E&C & The Dudleyz.

Intercontinental Champion Billy Gunn vs Chris Benoit. This match could have been a showstealer but unfortunately it was not given enough time to live up to that hype. Benoit carried this match while Gunn did not show his true potential (few botched spots). Again, this is still a good match that is watchable but I expected more from this one.

Women's Champion Ivory vs Molly Holly vs Trish Stratus. Honestly, this match was too short to make a comment about anything that happened. These ladies are talented but more time to this one would have been better, like the previous title match.

Six Pack Hell In A Cell: WWF Champion Kurt Angle vs Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock vs Undertaker vs Triple H vs Rikishi. First of all, look at the talent that is in this match & the storyline leading up to this one allowed everyone to fit into the picture. This match is worth the price of admission alone. This was one of the wildest Cell matches to happen in that it was complete non-stop action throughout the match with each man squaring off with each other at one point of the bout...and even Mr. McMahon making a cameo to try to stop the match, including trying to take down the Cell itself. All men eventually did get out eventually & went all over the place with Taker sending Rikishi on the same ride as Foley got over a year earlier & would be the last time someone took a dive off the top of the cage. The ending was exciting & the finish was a bit out there but it did not take away from an awesome match. One more thing, hats off to Jim Ross for a great commentary (like always) knowing that there was so much action going on.

In the end, there is only one match worth going out of your way to see which is the main event but this match can be seen on the new Hell In A Cell DVD, while the opener is available on Lita's DVD (that might be out of print). If you can get this really cheap, then go ahead otherwise Id pass since the good stuff here is available on other DVD sets. November 3, 2008

1. The Hardys and lita vs. The radicals in an elemination match- This was a decent way to kick off the show. I liked lthe pace of this match it was not to quick and it was not to slow. I think it was a good idea to have lita and dean the final two people. Good action both teams have had alot of talent and they shoed it here. Good way to kick off the show. Winners The Radicals. Match Rating 7/10.

2. Hardcore Holly vs. William Regal for the europen title-Oh man did this match suck. I could not stand the match the month before at surviovr series and this was just bad. U know its bad when your in your home town and you dont even get a cheer during the match. Regal controlled most of this match with some decent wreslting but i could just not get into this one. The ending was dumb to. Winner and still europen champ William Regal. Match Rating 3/10.

3. Chyna vs. Val Venis- This was a horriable match as well. I never thought that women should wrestle men its just not a good fix. This was val domanting m,ost of the match and ivory getting involved. Decent wrestling but two bad matches back to back was not good. Winner val venis. Match rating 3/10.

4. Y2J vs. Kane- This is our first really decent match of the night. I was hoping for more weapons to be used in this match but there wenrt. Still told a decent story and both of these guys can wrestle. Told more of a david vs. Gathl awith kane controolling most of the match but there were some nice chair shots by jerico also. Mostly wrestling but a sick ending were a bunch of barrels fall on kane. Winner Y2J. Match Rating 7.5/10.

5. The dudleys vs. Edge and Christian vs. Raod Dog and K-kick vs. Right to censor fir the wwe tag team titles- This was another soild match. All of these teams have talent and they showed it here. This was just a sold wrestling match and it got the crowd invovled with the tables. Back and forth action for about 12 minutes and the ending surprised me. Winners and new wwe tag team champs edge and christian. Match rating 7.5/10.

6. Chris Beniot vs. Billy Gun for the itc title- This was a decent match. It would have been alot better if billy gun did not haver his knee worked on the whole match> beniot controlled this match for the most part and got boring after a while because all he did was work on his leg. Decent at best could have been way better. Winner and new wwe itc champ chris beniot. Match Rating 6.5/10.

7. Molly Holly vs. Trish vs. Ivory for the wwe womens title- This was not that good of a match. Could have been alot better but it seems like the wwe put this in here as a filler. Just about 3 minutes and should have been given more time and respect than this. Skip this one. Winner and still wwe womens champ Ivory. Match rating 2.5/10.

8. The Rock vs. Undertaker vs. HHH vs. Rikishi vs. Stone Cold vs. Kurt Angle for the wwe title in a hell in a cell match- This was by far the match of the night. So much action and this match told a great story. This was on stop action all the way through and at one point everyone hit there finsihers in the ring and a ton of near falls. It broke to the outside were there were chairs and glass and barrels. Everyone gets busted open in this match. They climb the cell and thereare some sick chair shots. The part were rikishi gets chokeslammed off the top of the cell had to be seen. Ending is a surprise but still an awsome match. Winner and still wwe champ kurt angle. Match Rating 9.5/10.

WEll that raps up another. I would give arrmageddon 2000 a grade of which is a 58% which means this is an awful ppv. I think that sums it up. There is one really good match on this card which is the hell in the cell and the rest of the card has 3 fillers and a few average matches. If you can tell me if my review was helpful or not io would appreicate that. Thank sfor your time.

i rented this a few years ago and this was a great ppv but i cant see myself paying 40 bucks for it. Sure you got one of the greatest main events in history and 5 of the biggest super stars in WWf/e history (not rikishi though he did put on a very good match and a great show of guts allowing taker to throw him off of the cell). The mid card was patched up u have a few great matches and a few terrible ones. The lms match was great but had a lame ending and y were the rtc tag champs???? glad they lost. the first match was great along w/ gunn/benoit and the tag title match was decent. Regal/holly, womens title, val/chyna all absolutly suck. Though with this ppv the good out shines the bad and i hope to see a Smackdown vs Raw 6 man Hiac in the future (maby HBK v HHH v Cena v Batista v RKO v Angle?)in conclusion this ppv is worth about 10-12 $$ if it is on that low it will definitly be a high seller.
