| | Mylene's Tour - Live at Bercy! | |
Mylene Farmer, born Mylene Jeanne Gautier (ASOCAP 2006), Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 1961, to French parents - chose as homage to Frances Farmer, her stage name. She has sold well over one million music recordings in France alone - but to date offers no English sung song titles in her recordings. Mylene gained international recognition from her many video and stage recordings, e.g. Pourvu qu'elles soient douces - a 17 minute music video clip. Mylene plays sold out concernts in Europe, and Live at Bercy (DVD) is one of these performances. To describe her performance in French would be 'sensational', however, the word 'entreprendre' (to undertake) is perhaps a better description. Mylene undertakes the task of communicating to her audience a performance finesse that both intrigues and has one warming to her stage presence. Although the costumes by Pacco Rabbane are rather simple and certainly not erotic, the simplicity of the costumes and the dancing are non-intrusive; allowing the light and sound imaging of Tuxedo Tour Productions to simply excite the senses. The decor by Xavier Grosboir and Jean-Michael Laurent is also simple; allowing Mylene's stage presence and her performance to dominate. This conception performance by Mylene Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat is spectacular, concerning the sound and lighting, as well as Mylene's communications with her audience - and they are 'her' audience. If you love Mylene Farmer, then you will certainly add this DVD - by Toutankhaman S.A. - to your collection. Distributed by Universal/Polydor, without the provincial rawness, Mylene Farmer delivers 20 generous track scenes, that makes me want to here more, see more, and experience more, of this mysterious woman's mistique. This is an unusual review by an heterosexual male, I know...particularly when the high percentage of Mylene's fan base is gay. I just happen to like her too!
