Sabrina (1995)

Julia Ormond faced one of the great challenges of her career when she tried to re-create Audrey Hepburn's title role in the 1995 remake of 1954's Sabrina. Happily, Ormond performed admirably, and while she may not have the same gamine charm of Hepburn, she makes the role her own. In fact, her transformation from mousy girl to sophisticated young woman is actually more dramatic in this updated version. The basic plot is the same--chauffeur's daughter falls in love with the son of the rich household, only to be wooed away by the older brother for business purposes--but it has been entertainingly modernized: The head of the Larrabee household is the strong matriarch (Nancy Marchand); Sabrina goes to Paris to work with a photographer instead of going to cooking school (although that means the wonderful "new egg" scene of the original had to be ditched); David's (Greg Kinnear) character has been toned down and made more sympathetic; and Humphrey Bogart's revolutionary plastic has become the flattest TV screen ever made. Lauren Holly does a fine job playing Elizabeth Tyson, David's fiancée. well done remake of a classic

I loved the original with Bogart and this one was well made and sticking to the original beautifully. January 1, 2009

This remake is better than the original

I absolutely loved this movie. I've seen both versions and although it's almost impossible to out do Audrey Hepburn or William Holden, this version came very close. However, I did like Harrison Ford's portrayal of the eldest Larrabee brother better than the original. Humphrey Bogart was much too old for the part. Harrison Ford was no spring chicken in this version, but he was much more appealing and I could see Sabrina falling for him instead of David. This movie was fun and romantic. Julia Ormond and Greg Kinnear had large shoes to fill and they did a wonderful job. December 15, 2008

No chemistry but otherwise, great

I have not seen the orginal version of this movie, so I cannot comment on this as a remake, but I do like this movie. There doesn't seem to be much chemisty between the two main characters, so when they fall in love, it doesn't seem that believable, but almost everything else about this film is engaging. It's an enjoyable movie to watch and most of the characters are interesting in their own right and well-played by the actors. November 30, 2008

I loved this movie!!! The original of course is the best, but I must say that Harrison Ford still hasn't lost the touch. I love the actors they used and the paris setting make you want to go visit. You should buy this movie. I watch it every week at least 2X! November 11, 2008
