About Point Break

An unbelievable movie, and deliriously better for it. Keanu Reeves is a hotshot law enforcement dude--Johnny Utah by name--investigating a series of bank robberies in L.A. Four gunmen, disguised in rubber masks of ex-U.S. presidents, have never come close to being caught, but veteran agent Gary Busey has a theory: The bandits are surfers. This prompts the superb line, "The ex-presidents rip off banks to finance the endless summer!" This movie's full of dialogue like that, but instead of sounding ridiculous it creates its own infectious comic-book energy--ride the crest of it and you'll find the film's giddy zone. Patrick Swayze plays Bodhi, zen-master leader of the surfing clan, humming serenely with the wisdom of the waves. (Alarmingly, Swayze also did his own skydiving stunts.) Director Kathryn Bigelow (Strange Days) stages the action sequences with a visceral snap, and clearly has a gift for orchestrating pulp fiction. Though not a huge hit when was first released, Point Break has a well-deserved cult reputation thanks to its video afterlife. The film's executive producer is James Cameron, Bigelow's husband at the time. --Robert Horton Amazon.com

Point Break is a really unique action film and it stands the test of time. The dialogue is so-so but holds your interst until the end with the final skydiving scenes. In this adrenaline edition, you get a nice set of extras and for a really low price. This movie had one of my favorite bank robbery scenes and I highly recommend it to anyone for the value of this dvd. September 29, 2008

I love this film, and I just recently picked up a PS3 to enjoy BLURAY movies and such. However due to the quality of (wink wink) digitally remastered transfers only HALF of the SMALL amount of films I want to watch on BR are worth seeing, this is NOT one of them sadly. This looks no better than the last DVD release. Ive seen MUCH older and cheaper made movies come out looking better on BR....me sad July 13, 2008

I have a one big problem with it. Why give the cop/quarterback role to Keanu and the surfer role to Swayze? It would've made a whole lot more sense if the roles were switched. Was this mix-up done on purpose?... perhaps to prove a point? If there was any, it was lost. It's an eyesore to an otherwise good action flick. July 12, 2008

just wonder about what happened to the original extra featurettes of this movie - that I saw in an italian version of the DVD I didn't like because the english audio version had useles italian subtitles on it. The movie is still the movie I enjoyed when I first saw it years ago! June 21, 2008

This is one of the best action/adventure movies ever filmed! It's a *lot* more believable than say, Iron Man, Spider Man, Super Man, etc., or anything featuring "Bond, James Bond."

Why did they give it a rough time when it first came out? It was directed by a "woman, very talented woman," and people were not about to let the sacred domain of the Summer Blockbuster Movie be shared with a woman! She had been romantically linked with James Cameron, so critics, of course, archly hinted that he did it for her, etc.

I recommended it to friends at the time, and told them it was so vivid, that in the surfer scenes you'll need a towel! They didn't go see it. Months later, when it was out on cable, they came up to me and said, "I have this great movie to recommend - you've got to see it!" I explained that it was the same movie I'd tried to bodily drag them to. They were shocked - "But this was a *good* movie!" Yes. That's what happens when you let your life be decided by critics.

It's got much more heart, and a much better story, than most summer blockbusters you'll ever see (or a lot of other movies, either). Not to be missed! Great all-around cast, pulse-pounding action, memorable lines, and -- remember your towel. May 12, 2008
