If you love vampires, you should enjoy this wonderfully slick and updated addition to the Dracula mythos. Justine Waddell is about as lovely as lovely gets (see Tess of the d'Urbervilles), and Jennifer Esposito is no slouch with the fangs either. I'll readily admit that Gerald Butler is charismatic enough to be their master and sustain interest. As for the official review, I strenuously object. There are several jolting scenes (I jumped a foot in one instance), but at the end of the day, vampirism is supposed to be about 80% sexy and 20% scary. This movie fills those shoes more than adequately. Is it a classic for the ages? Probably not. Nosferatu is eternal, and Coppola's treatment became the new gold standard, but this is energetic, modern, and a suitable extension, with location shots from New Orleans. Being a soon to be fledging Vampire Author myself and avid long time Vampire fan, I loved this movie. I've seen it before..once had it in my "Vampire Collection" but it got stolen..now back to replacing my "Collection" once again. In any event. I like Mr Butlers acting very much -grin- I like how "Dark, gothic and evil" he came across with out any "Micheal Myers, Kruger & Jason" slashing. To me, he seemed to stay true to the character he played as "Dracula." and I like the unique spin on how he became Dracula, I. E. "Judas". I do agree how ever with a past reviewer that the breaking in of the valt & stealing his casket could/should have have been done as a "Voice over" introduction. At least I know how I'm going to have my vampire novel done once its completed. All in all it was a good flick. A must have for a good vampire collection. -Darien- June 9, 2008

"Dracula 2000" is a DISGRACE!! Seriously, this movie is horrible! I was bored out of my mind while watching this garbage. The story behind this movie is absolutely horrible, the script is boring, the acting is pathetic and Dracula looks like a long-haired Greg Brady. Need I say more? Well, let's not forget that these vampires are ninjas too or karate freaks or whatever they trying to be. Honestly, karate vampires??? No one who takes horror movies seriously could possibly enjoy this movie! Obviously, Wes Craven was desperate for some cash or he ate a mad cow or something like that, but by making "Dracula 2000", he made one of the worst movies I have ever seen. There is nothing even remotely scary about this movie and certainly nothing interesting about the plot. All you get in "Dracula 2000" is a butchered and modernized/new aged "Dracula" which is essentially a joke to any serious "Dracula" fan and which is completely lacking in style and substance. There is nothing remotely entertaining about this movie, and there sure as hell is not anything scary about it, unless you consider what lifeless and faddy films like this represent to the horror genre; that, my friends, is the only scary thing about this movie. I would recommend that anyone who holds "Dracula" and good horror movies in general dear to their heart to avoid this like the plague. These are the kinds of movies that give the horror genre a bad name.

... that doesn't allow you to dislike vampire movies, then check it out. Otherwise, this is barely watchable, imo.

I love vampire/werewolf movies, although I haven't seen a ton of them. This one definitely does not cut the mustard.

Two things that I did like about it: 1) Obviously the chicks were nice and, 2) the origin of Dracula was an idea I hadn't heard before... very interesting, however, not my preferred origin.

Other than those two, the story was kind of thin, the acting routine, and the fight scenes weak.

There was really nothing meaty about this flick. It was one of those that I was tempted to fast forward through, but forced myself to watch it.

Some examples of far, FAR, better vampire movies for comparison so you know where I'm coming from: Lost Boys, Interview w/ Vamp, Underworld series, Van Helsing. February 18, 2008
