About Quackser Fortune has a Cousin in the Bronx
Reminiscent of "Harold & Maude" and "Start the Revolution Without Me," this gentle comedy is the story of a man out of step with this world, marching to the beat of his own drum. Quackser Fortune (Wilder) earns his living by following the horse-drawn delivery wagons of Dublin, scooping up the droppings and selling it as fertilizer. Margot Kidder is the American exchange student who finds herself drawn to this unlearned, but not unknowing man. Bonus Features: Biographies| Theatrical Trailer| Bonus Previews| Scene Selection. Average user review:| Another GEne Wilder funny one. |
I got it simply because Gene Wilder was in it. The movie itself is a
lighthearted comedy set in Ireland in a small village. Wilder's character, Quackser Fortune (the name GEne Wilder and a name like
Quackser is bound to be funny). Quackser wheels a wheelbarrow with a
big rose sticking up in it, collecting horse manure. "Horse Manure
for sale"-Horse dung for sale" etc. Margot Kidder is a young rich
American girl attending University there and is attracted to this
strange character..and treats him rather shabbily as he is not of her
social status. Then Quackser gets a horrifying shock-the village is
hauling off all the horses to the slaughter house and without the
horse manure, Quackser has no job. By the way seems the village has
the most beautiful flowers anywhere all over town and all just because of Quackser. It's not Wilder's best but anything he is in has that
quirky sense of humor we all love. April 29, 2008

This is among the worst movies I have seen. It is unbelievably slow--pulling teeth would be more interesting to watch. Though Gene Wilder is a fine actor, this is not one of his better works. In this story he plays a horse dung street sweeper who sells the manure wherever he can. Not a bone of ambition does he have. The story centers around meeting a free-spirited American girl studying in Dublin and what happens between them.
The dialogue is boring or non-existant and the storyline pathetic.
Clearly I am a lone voice in the wilderness here, but caveat emptor before you buy it.
