About The Apple Dumpling Gang

Bill Bixby plays a 19th-century gambler who inherits responsibility for three orphans, but the kids in turn have something of value: a huge gold nugget. This Disney film from 1975 is an enjoyable potboiler with its sentimentality under control and the accent on laughs, most of which are provided, not unexpectedly, by Tim Conway and Don Knotts as thieves who want to get their hands on the treasure. An easy, safe film for children. You can't go wrong with this. --Tom Keogh Amazon.com

They say you can't con an honest man, and Russel Donovan (played by Bill Bixby) proves it when he is conned into picking up some "valuables" that turn out to be three children. He needs to dump the three urchins, and pronto, but the question is where. The three kids like their new home, and they turn for help to outlaws Amos Tucker (Tim Conway) and Theodore Ogelvie (Don Knotts) - perhaps the most incompetent outlaws that every roamed the West. And thus began the saga of the Apple Dumpling Gang!

This is a great Disney movie, one of the best live-action movies that they ever produced. Don Knotts and Tim Conway steal the show with their hilariously antics - I love the way that they played off of each other. But, I must say that Bill Bixby and Susan Clark do an excellent job of providing the romantic, if not entirely serious, side to the movie.

This is a great movie, perfect for family movie night. The movie is clean and very funny, and we just love it. Be sure to add this movie to your DVD collection! January 2, 2009

Other reviewers have covered the plot of this movie better than I can. This movie is the old classic. It is exactly as I remember it as a child. Funny, madcap adventure that has everything working out in the end for everyone in a positive way.

This is the type of family movie that we need more of now in this day and age. There is a reason these movies are still available. There is no swearing, no risky behavior, no bloody scenes and no nudity. The children are independent and yet still children and in need of an adult around them.

My children have enjoyed this movie tremendously at ages 9, 7 and 5.
Well worth the money.
Enjoy. December 24, 2008

I agree with the review written by cordell jeffries. This is a movie for the entire family with no worries about what will be said or what you will view on screen. I am enjoying introducing my 8-year-old daughter to all the movies I watched when I was younger and the movies her 25-year-old brother watched over and over as a child. I only wish those making movies today would take note and realize that not everyone wants to hear vulgar words and view explicit scenes in movies or even on television for that matter. I would highly recommend this movie for families and anyone looking for some innocent laughs. Tim Conway and the late Don Knotts provide plenty. February 16, 2008
