About Forever Knight: Original Television Soundtrack

In scoring this cult TV hit, Fred Mollin exhibits a flair for the bombastic and the subdued. The two extremes often battle for dominance within his synthesized orchestrations--one minute, tempestuous strings and brass surge and monstrous percussion pounds ferociously only to give way to a delicate piano or harp melody. It's an appropriate sonic clash for a series about a blood-sucking detective with a soft spot for humanity. Within this intense maelstrom of sound, however, Mollin finds order and balance with a consistent ebb and flow in drama and dynamics. In spite of its obvious synthetic qualities, Forever Knight is a dramatic illustration of the potency of electronic scores in the TV realm. Toronto torch singers Lori Yates and Molly Johnson also appear. --Bryan Reesman Amazon.com

This CD is pretty good. I dont much care for the instermental music because its pretty cheesey. I love the singing parts of the CD it is very hypnotic. I wish there was more singing. Since I bought it for just those songs. Those songs make it a good CD. December 12, 2007

This DVD, the first of two releases of soundtrack music from the TV series "Forever Knight", will be a delight to fans of that series and perhaps to others looking for an unusual collection.

Composer and performer Fred Molle captured the haunting qualities of "Forever Knight" in his eclectic mixture of subtle classical music mixed with jazz and even traditional Celtic strains, punctuated by heavy overtone effects that remind the listener of the danger inherent in the plots of the show. Lori Yates provides the soulful vocals for a number of songs captured from various episodes. Nigel Bennett, who played the vampire LaCroix, contributes a selection of voice-overs from his radio talks in the series. Geraint Wyn-Davies, who played Detective Nick Knight and who was sometimes seen at the keyboard during the show, plays his own piano theme.

This collection is highly recommended to fans of the gone but not forgotten "Forever Knight." February 20, 2007

Since that moment when, one night several years ago I discovered a TV series on vampires and I watched the interaction between some of the best characters that I've ever seen on TV: Nick, Lacroix, Janette, Natalie, Schanke, while playing on the background or listening to the Main Theme Title, I could listen to the music of the great composer Fred Mollin, I was immediatly captured and I became a fan of Forever Knight.

This is a very special volume with jewels like "Nick's Piano Theme" performed by Geraint Wyn Davies himself, or another one: for those lovers of the Celtic culture the suite from the "Queen of Harps".

It's a real delight to the senses to listen to the performance of Lori Yates on those, now classic themes like: "The Hunger", "Black Rose" & "Touch the Night". While interspersed amongst the tracks one can listen to the magnetic, captivating voice of our favorite "uncle" Lacroix (Nigel Bennet).

Forever Knight , The Original Television Soundtrack is a must buy to fans of this series, and if you are a newcomer, rest assured that this is an excellent CD. (There's a second volume too) 22 tracks, a booklet with color pictures of cast and composer October 23, 2006

Fred Mollin's first volume of scores and songs from the cult hit TV series FOREVER KNIGHT is terrific. Mollin's score is fast-paced, and occasionally dramatic, not to mention mystical; there is also a bunch of excellent songs sung by Lori Yates (featured on the TV show playing in the Raven bar). Of course, there's also the dark and always great "Forever Knight Theme"; fans of the show will be even more pleased with dialogue thrown in from the show. FOREVER KNIGHT star Geraint Wyn Davies also contributes "Nick's Piano Theme". Enjoy the Darkness. February 4, 2004

rating: 3 QuoteAtmospheric soundtracks AND the best vampire pop of the 80sQuote
I'm delighted to see these 2 discs here, because I think Fred Mollin's stylish and versatile work for "Forever Knight" has been criminally overlooked, and deserves a much wider audience. Here you get the best of it: not only his dramatic, atmospheric orchestral suites for some of the best episodes in the series, but also four gorgeous, dark-romantic pop songs that could have been massive hits for someone (Bonnie Tyler, say, or Heart...) had fate been kinder. (Several were featured in the episode "Dying for Fame" as the work of fictional rock star Rebecca, and they continued to be heard on the sound system at the Raven nightclub for the rest of the series' run.) Hauntingly sung by Lori Yates, these vampire-themed beauties--"The Hunger", "Black Rose", "Touch the Night" and especially "Dark Side of the Glass"--just cry out to be rediscovered by Goth bands, updated to the 00's and raised to long-overdue stardom. (--Yes, Radu, I'm talking to you! I *know* you read everything I write! =)

But even if you aren't a vampire, I recommend these to you as long as you like romance and drama in a soundtrack, or enjoy well-crafted pop songs with a shadowy twist. Mollin's work will well reward your attention. June 21, 2003
