The best part of this soundtrack is the modern jazz band version of Benny Goodman's SING,SING,SING. The recording is very crisp and powerful. Even though the song time has been cut just about in half, its still gets you movin. Stompin at the woodside is another really jammin tune. There are about 4 or 5 swing songs (some original, some remakes)that make this album more than worth owning. The other songs which were written for the film are too mellow and less to be desired. You can always skip them. The film itself is actually not a bad film either. October 30, 2007

when i first bought this cd in 1993, i was moving hell and high water to find this original soundtrack. in the philippines, this was not officially released. i have to order through a friend to finally have this soundtrack. while contemplating, i was able to buy other "swing" records by benny goodman (2 greatest hits cd with different tracks from sony legacy and bluebird records) and i really liked what i heard!

back to the orignal soundtrack - this is the only album where you can find the newly recorded version of louis prima's sing sing sing, originally recorded by benny goodman in 1937. this new version has been edited just right at 5 minutes! (the original recording, although monumental and great, is a staggering 12 minutes!) this is very reason i bought this cd (aside from i really liked the movie). sing sing sing was faithfully recorded and orchestrated by robert kraft. it really swings - to say the least - with state-of-the-art digital sound as compared to the original mono.

other great tracks here are the new renditions of daphne, shout and feel it, life goes to a party, and bie mir bist di schon - while maintaining the original monaural recordings of flat foot floogee, goodnight my love, swingtime in the rockies and it dont mean a thing (if it aint got that swing)!

swings kids - both the movie and soundtrack - will always be one of my all-time favorites in my collection.

buy it: if you like swing music all integrated in one good movie about the pre-war america-loving german kids and the challenges of the times that ultimately affected their friendship and loyalties.

avoid it: if you prefer original monaural recordings of great 1940s music or if you have already collected a great number of swing cds.

the tracks mentioned were also highlights of the movie. aside from james horner's excellent score, swing kids also boasts of great swing music from start to finish October 17, 2007

This soundtrack has the single best version of Benny Goodman's "Sing Sing Sing" I've ever heard -- as well done as the original, and, with the benefit of modern recording equipment, much easier to listen to. That song alone was worth the price of the album for me. March 9, 2007

Of course, 'Sing Sing Sing' is a classic, and it is well played. My other favorite is 'Bei Mir Bis Du Schoen', for sentimental reasons, but it is well sung and makes a great dance. The other tracks are typical soundtrack music to me. They sound fine, but I really got the CD just for the two songs mentioned. November 10, 2006
