The service at Amazon was great and the product itself arrived safely, but the soundtrack should have included more of the songs she sang in the movie....I really didn't need to listen to all the background music when the story was about a Jazz Trio and the songs they performed on the road.....where were all the songs Michelle sang? Most of them were missing!!!!!!!!! June 29, 2008

This is great whether you've seen the movie or not. I can remember searching the used music sections in NYC circa 1994 looking for it as a 21 year old au pair. Amazing tunes for every mood. The soundtrack is mostly contemporary jazz and piano with some classic jazz thrown in. If you enjoy this style of music you'll love it. March 26, 2008

If you never saw the movie, you would really enjoy the CD, although it's a bit disjointed in the collection. Pfeiffer is fabulous. I cannot believe she has not performed more vocals. It must break some law to be both this stunning and talented, too.

The problem is, as others have said, it omits some great tracks from the movie and doesn't really capture its spirit. What is good could have been great. A shame. February 17, 2008

Very disappointed that this "soundtrack" is not in fact a soundtrack of the movie. This has to be a first in my experience. The film has so many nice numbers which i wanted to include on my ipod. What a marketing loss for the production company. November 12, 2007

Grusin's a fine musician, sure, and the soundtrack does contain a couple of Michelle's numbers (and for that reason it gets two stars), but as Mr. Lundy noted, a lot of the musical numbers that were the real soundtrack to the film are not here. I didn't need every vocal, certainly, but the "Ten Cents A Dance" number where the Bakers have to temporarily cover the vocals, with Michelle Pfeiffer coming in when she recovers, was a must, as was some of the late-night piano noodling of Jeff Bridges' character. A couple of other vocals, already noted elsewhere by other reviewers, should also have been included. This needs to be redone. This movie is still enjoyed by many, and in large measure for the unique presentation of the music, since on repeated viewing the plot is certainly familiar. A shame, and a letdown for the fans.
