About Supernova
Filmmakers apparently count on the fact that generational turnover renders old formulas fresh again for new audiences. Which is the only explanation for this sci-fi thriller, which could kindly be called an homage to Ridley Scott's trendsetting Alien. A medical rescue ship responds to a distress call from a mining colony and finds only one survivor: a strange young man (Peter Facinelli), who comes aboard carrying an even stranger alien artifact. But the plot of this film, which was directed and then disowned by Walter Hill, grows confused as it tries to explain the sinister force that will lead to a star going to supernova status, causing a universe-shattering explosion. Some nice sexual tension between James Spader (as a recovering drug addict who is the ship's copilot) and Angela Bassett (as the ship's doctor). Notable mostly, however, for the eerie resemblance, both physical and vocal, between Facinelli and Tom Cruise. --Marshall Fine Amazon.com

should be zero stars
Good enough Sci Fi thriller
The story could have been fleshed out better and some things explained better or deleted, but it's watchable for what it is. A B-movie Sci Fi thriller. April 6, 2008
The worst movie ever.
Worse than Blair Witch 2, than anything by Roger Corman, than... well, anything, period. This movie is one for the ages. Avoid. April 4, 2008
I own this movie and I love it.
I did feel that the main characters relationship should have been fleshed out more,(eww, another pun). I would have loved to see just one real kiss from these two (no problem with lighting for the Tunney's character or kissing when she got hers) but then we're talking about a 22th century IR relationship filmed in the 21st century. We are still not there yet, folks. But they are which is uplifting in itself.
The ending was wonderful and if this movie had made more money (say break even) we may have seen their daughter break some alien arse. Anyway, I loved this movie and wish there were more like it. But alas we have not evolved far enough yet. March 5, 2008
