About Memphis Belle

If you've never seen an aviation movie before in your entire life, you'll be blissfully ignorant of the fact that Memphis Belle shamelessly (and yet gloriously) incorporates just about every cliché in the flight-movie handbook. If you're a big fan of aviation movies--especially movies about World War II bomber crews--you'll be glad that the genre's clichés have been handled with such professional flair. As it follows the crew of a B-17 bomber on its final and most dangerous mission over Germany, Memphis Belle may be little more than a slick and highly authentic presentation of familiar thrills and characters, but it's a rousing piece of entertainment. Featuring an ensemble cast of fresh faces who've since enjoyed thriving careers (including Billy Zane, Sean Astin, Eric Stoltz, D.B. Sweeney, and Harry Connick Jr.), the movie exists as a fitting tribute to the men who fought and often died in the air over hostile territory. It's the Hollywood version of a 1944 wartime documentary made by legendary director William Wyler (whose daughter served as one of this film's producers), and as such it's a bit contrived and melodramatic. And yet, this exciting movie is almost certain to grab and hold your attention, offering an honorable reminder of the bravery and integrity that were crucial ingredients of any bomber's crew. --Jeff Shannon Amazon.com

rating: 5 FLY BACK IN TIME
"Memphis Belle" is in my top 10 movie list. (Last count, there's 53.)
The film is based on a true story of heroism during WWII. A real, air-worthy B-17 was used and the interior shots were filmed in sections built according to the original Boeing blueprints. I admire authenticity.
The actors were well casted but Matthew Modine and Sean Austin stood out for me as very believable characters.
This movie made me a fan of Harry Conick jr.
Words don't do it justice; just get it for your collection.

rating: 5 WWII enjoyment for all...
Cheesy, corny, predictable, etc. Whatever you say about this film might be right... yet, it is a great movie, that transports you to the actual story of the guys and allows you to enjoy rather than suffer (although war is nothing to enjoy, ever) and gives you a positive feeling at the end. I've watched it at least ten times, and still enjoy it. April 21, 2008

It has all the new "RAT PACK" from the 90's and 2000. It was good and one of the best WWII movies for airplane battle fights I ever saw. It is not the documentary and that has an awesome review too, my friend 43 yrs service retired now Aircraft mechanic wanted this for his birthday and said "It was one of the best MOVIE dogfights I have ever seen!" This man went through Veitnam and Korea. Full of tons of stars that we all know most became famous all star cast and a story well told and lived. January 14, 2008
