About Bullitt

San Francisco has been the setting of a lot of exciting movie car chases over the years, but this 1968 police thriller is still the one to beat when it comes to high-octane action on the steep hills of the city by the Bay. The outstanding car chase earned an Oscar for best editing, but the rest of the movie is pretty good, too. Bullitt is a perfect star vehicle for cool guy Steve McQueen, who stars as a tenacious detective (is there any other kind?) determined to track down the killers of the star witness in an important trial. Director Peter Yates (Breaking Away) approached the story with an emphasis on absolute authenticity, using a variety of San Francisco locations. Jacqueline Bisset and Robert Duvall appear in early roles, and Robert Vaughn plays the criminal kingpin who pulls the deadly strings of the tightly wound plot. --Jeff Shannon Amazon.com

rating: 5 Bullitt: Where the Car Chase was Created!
Bullitt, is a movie that was released in 68, its a detective story, where Det. Frank Bullitt is looking for the murderers of a witness. Although the movie has its good moments of sleuthing and grittiness what makes this movie is its 7 min. car chase. What makes this car chase the ultimate car chase is that Steve McQueen is the actual driver of the 1968 Mustang from start of the chase to end of it. All through out the chase the cars are driving at actual speeds through San Francisco, unlike many movies since even today where they simply speed the film up to give the illusion of driving fast. Again this is a solid detective movie but what sells this movie is that chase!! May 1, 2008

I forgot this movie....it is real tame compared to todays special effects....it's good to see Steve again though April 28, 2008

rating: 4 One of the great films from the 1960s
This is a great movie, with good views of the older San Francisco skyline and some great old cars, not to mention good performances by some of Hollywood's best actors. The car chase sequence made the movie famous, and was pioneering for its time. The chase is just the right length, and is not overblown like many of today's movies which rely on special effects to carry weak storylines and mediocre acting. There aren't many movies I consider buying, but this is one of them! April 15, 2008

I purchased this DVD for my oldest son's birthday. I had seen it when it came out and enjoyed it so much. My son's thank you was bursting with appreciation. He loves this action packed movie. Another plus is we are from San Francisco and it's fun to see how it looked then. March 30, 2008
