The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

Wildly romantic, daringly exciting, Michael Mann's film of James Fenimore Cooper's novel created a new babe magnet out of Daniel Day-Lewis, he of the heaving pecs and flowing mane. As Hawkeye, he plays an American settler raised by the Mohicans who is forced to serve as a guide for British adventurism in upstate New York. But the British have been outflanked by the French (and their Indian allies); then British honor is betrayed when a band of renegades assaults them during their retreat. Mann captures the viciousness of this era's hand-to-hand combat in startling battle scenes. But he also invests the film with heartfelt romance, as the feelings swell between Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe. The ending is a stunner, a long, nearly wordless sequence of battle and loss. Awful

Took this movie out as I liked Dances With Wolves. Just terrible, bad plot, bad acting, bad ending. November 27, 2008

Stays with you

I never watched this when it came out in the early 90's, but had heard about it. It was wonderfully done, Daniel Day-Lewis was mesmerizing, and I was struck at how it did not feel the least bit dated. I did not read the book, so can't compare, but for a movie, this had much "edge of your seat" action, romance (not overdone or oversexual), and beauty. And yes, DDL running through the woods makes for some rewinding and replaying! November 12, 2008

Very entertaining

I really liked this movie and watch it whenever it's on TV. This movie and a handful of others I never tire of. Daniel Day Lewis is such a good actor(a must see in "The Crucible"). The ambush , youngest sister on the cliff and burn at the stake are very intense scenes. I say watch it! November 8, 2008

Soap-opera in pre-revolutionary America

Hollywood-ized adaption of James Fennimore Cooper's classic novel. Great scenery and action but soap opera story and sappy romance give this the feel of one of those 70/80s TV miniseries. October 29, 2008
