Coal Miner's Daughter (1980)

Sissy Spacek won a much-deserved Oscar for her lead in this entertaining biography of country-music legend Loretta Lynn. British director Michael Apted (Gorillas in the Mist) brings fine texture to the Kentucky backwoods section of the film, where the teenage Loretta meets her future husband (Tommy Lee Jones), who ultimately pushes her into show business. Lynn's adult life is well covered, from her spouse's philandering to her own on-stage crackups; but between the chapter-and-verse recollections, the script by Thomas Rickman is layered with life and moments of great humor. Coal Miner's Daughter - 25th Anniversary Edition
Great movie for family night. Cissy Spacek did a great job portraying Loretta Lynn and kept me entertained the whole time.
Anyone who loves music should see this movie and would know how truly tough it is to break into the music business; this movie definately shows what it takes to make it famous.
Anyone who was or is poor can associate with the story this movie tells.
This is not a documentary but it does show a lot of history on Loretta Lynn and is enjoyable to watch...definately not boring! September 10, 2008

True Life

Love it. So much to get out of this movie. Best acting, great music. Lost count how many times viewed and will again. Sissy Spacek always great (see her in Raggedy Man) also Tommy Lee Jones. Scale of one to ten, ten being best,this is an eight. June 18, 2008

AWESOME MOVIE.

I LOVE this movie. Definitely worth buying it online because I couldn't find it anywhere else. Definitely a collectors item if you're into that sort of thing. Sissy Spacek looks JUST LIKE Loretta when she was really young. I watch this movie at least once a week. LOVE IT! May 2, 2008

well you cant really go wrong with sissy spacek and tommy lee jones. great movie very well done. sissy spacek does a perfect job on the singing you cant even tell a difference between her and loreta lynn herself. this is a much watch for any country music fan. February 10, 2008
