I first saw this movie not long after it came out and again much later on. loved it then and now. far more sensual than i was aware at the time, loved it. its arty, If you are a lover of film festival movies you will probably really like it. Its no more sensual than the movie "The Piano".Look at its rating.
Its Bohemian! Things that go on behind closed doors. If you dont like living outside of the square on religion or sensuality then its probably not for you.
i absolutely love this movie. although made in 1994 i am compelled to add it to my collection in 2008. very different sort of movie.
March 20, 2008Hugh Grant stars in this movie about a young reverend and his wife sent to Australia to minister to the flock. The reverend is asked to investigate an artist who painted a controversial work call "Crucified Venus." The reverand, who considers himself a progressive, is shocked at the amoral atmosphere surrounding the painter, his wife, and the three models living at his estate. The minister's wife has to deal with sexual urges while trying to remain loyal to her husband. The movie is about freeing your inner goddess.
January 14, 2007A minister (Hugh Grant) and his wife (Tara Fitzgerald) are sent to talk some good, Christian sense into pagan Norman Lindsay (Sam Neill), an artist whose work is a little too sexually graphic for the townsfolk. You can probably guess what transpires when this couple, which unwisely attempts to suppress their natural urges, meets the artist and his liberated group. The film is funny (deliberately, I might add) because we recognize the importance of indulging our desires, at least occasionally and in a sensible manner. Repression sounds like a good idea to some people from a religious or moral perspective, yet it can lead to undesirable behaviors. If there is one primary point to the film, I believe that is it. Pervasively sensual, this is a beautiful film for adults, with plenty to interest both men and women.
August 18, 2006This is one of my favorite movies. It's so seductive and funny and beautiful all at the same time. Now, this is a chick flick. I don't know if most men would agree with me. If you like artsy films, you will probably enjoy this movie.
