rating: 3 good but not great
this was good but the acting was kinda bad this movie was kinda different than the other nightmare on elm street movies but this movie was good April 27, 2008

rating: 3 hmmm. A very weak 3 stars.
This sequel is a mixed bag in some ways. There are alot of faults with this movie that contradicts the original story. But looking past those things, this sequel does a great job maintaining the dark nature of the Freddy character. Unlike the next batch of sequels that turned Freddy into a clown.

Even though it somewhat lacks the creepy atmosphere from the first one. The gore and special effects make up for it. The killings are just brutal in this one. And I strongly prefer slashing and stabbings over video game playing deaths. I thought the acting was good but this cast doesn't match the original at all. I did like the plot and the back story involving Nancy plus the use of her diary. That made the story more interesting.

There are things about this movie I did like. But I still have a hard time truly accepting this as a real sequel. I think Dream Warriors does a better job at being a real sequel. Still it's a decent watch. April 1, 2008

rating: 3 Not a bad movie,
It seems as though everytime A Nightmare on Elmstreet comes up, you hear a lot of raving about how bad part 2 sucks. Well it had been a few years, so I rewatched it again recently only to find that this movie isn't half bad! As a follow up to the original, I can understand why this wasn't received well. As a movie on its own, its pretty good for what it is.

Here we follow teenage Jesse whose family has just moved into the infamous house on Elm Street. Jesse begins having nightmares which eventually leads him into being possessed by Fred Krueger. This movie features some pretty good acting, Mark Patton plays Jesse very convincingly. The dialogue, although it's not oscar material, almost sounds like a real conversaton that could be taking place. We also have a great appearance by Clu Galager as Jesse's tightwad father. You can definietly identify with his father-knows-best stereotype lines.

I guess the problem with this movie is the pacing/story. The whole film is centered around Jesse's psychological descent. Kills are far and few in between. Finally the last 15 minutes something begins happening storywise, but it all just culminates into a weak, anti-climactic ending. It never really explains why or how Freddy is able to possess Jesse. I assume it's just because they live in the notorious house, which is sort of weak. While we're talking about Freddy, I think the most misleading thing about this movie is that it's called Freddy's Revenge. The fact is, he doesn't get revenge on anybody! In fact Freddy probably only gets about 10 minutes of actual screentime here, and it's pretty lame. (He knocks a decorative plate of the wall to show that he's angry). About the implied homosexual stuff in the film, it's really not extreme enough to get upset over. The gym coach was kinda weird I'll admit, but I got over it.

All in all, Freddy's Revenge isn't all that great a movie. It's low on Freddy, low on kills, weak story, bad ending...But I wouldn't say it's the worst Nightmare on Elmstreet movie. So far I reserve that spot for Freddy's Dead, although I haven't wached the supposedly horrific part 5 yet. If you like the series, it's worth a watch.

rating: 1 The dookie stain of the series
Five years after the events of the original film, A teenage boy who's new in town [Mark Patton] moves into Freddy's old house and he begins being haunted in his dreams by Freddy. Soon, Freddy begins killing the local teens and he's also making an attempt to possess the boy's brain. This movie was a sure misfire. What started as a truly terrifying story with the first film spirals down into a mess with this film. The characters are boring, The story's extremely weak, Freddy seems to have nothing to do, and the movie as a whole seriously lacks direction. I say you should just skip this movie because it ain't even worth a watch. Not even the murders in this movie are good. Probably the worst movie in the series. September 18, 2007

rating: 4 A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
PLOT: Jesse's just your ordinary, young, badly dressed misfit. But, there's only one problem...he moved into the house from the original film, and now he's being posessed and tormented by the crispy child killer Fred Krueger.

MY REVIEW: You know, this movie is really not as bad as other people say. The major reason people hate it is its "homosexual" references. Sure, there were some parts where I thought some gayness was implied, but it wasn't much of a distraction. I like how this sequel went in a different direction than the original. It's both a slasher and a haunted house/posession flick, which I found refreshing. The acting was surprisingly good, and there's ample gore. I say, if you're a Nightmare fan, like me, then this is a must-see. If you're just a casual horror fan, you should see it also. Oh, and be sure to look for Robert Englund minus his Freddy makeup in the opening sequence.

ACTING: Mark Patton (Jesse) was believable as the outcast teenager. His chemistry with Kim Meyers (Lisa) was dead on. Robert Englund (Freddy) is thankfully kept in the shadows and still scary. He creeped me out, especially during the pool party massacre scene.

GORE: we get an exposed brain, a sliced open back, slashings, one boiled teen, Freddy bursting through someone's chest (awesome), and more

SOUNDTRACK: The original's memorable score returns, and it works. Other than that, we get some forgettable 80's pop songs.

OVERALL: 4/5 stars March 11, 2007
